Brightening the Dreary Winter Months
A little secret: I love snow. Give me a great big storm with a foot of snow, so I can't do anything but stay home and cook and play games...I'm a happy camper. No wait, I'd be a miserable camper, I'm a happy homer. D'oh! You get the idea. I suspect the only reason I look forward to these events is because I'm blessed to live in a city where it only takes a few hours for the plow crews to clear the roads, so we're never homebound long enough to get cabin fever. Plus, when the storm blows itself out, we can take Elly SLEDDING!
Alas, this winter, it seemed like every time we had a huge storm forecast, our part of town seemed to get passed by. There must have been half a dozen storms this year where we were told to expect ten inches of snow, but we'd wind up with only two. And whenever the snow did pile up enough to go sledding, someone was sick...or we had other responsibilities. Why do I get the feeling I should expect this to continue for the next several years?
There was one good storm in January, which also coincided with a cold/flu-free day of sledding. Elly had a blast, and so did her parents.
But all that fun and excitement wore her out.
Post-ice-cream-Elly channeling her inner bard (or perhaps pirate):
It seems like every couple weeks we're startled at how much Elly has grown. These thoughts usually come right after one of those "She couldn't reach that (insert fragile item here) yesterday!" moments. Among her new tricks is the ability to raid Mommy's dresser drawers. One particular drawer seems to attract most of her attention. It appears that Elly dreams of being an underwear model. She just needs to figure out how exactly underwear is supposed to be worn. It should be noted that she did NOT learn this behavior from her father. Strike a pose!
She even greeted me at the door every day for a couple weeks, wearing her necklace/scarf/whatever.
February was a typically busy month filled with...
...Elly's first hair cut at a fun place with special seats for the kids, and a slide. I think Elly is ready for spring, so she can get back to the park.
...fun times with cousins.
...and just general everyday silliness.
Sometimes all that fun and silliness just wears a girl out.
